CAUSE AND EFFECT CHEMICAL REACTION

WEATHERING

Understanding
Weathering is the process of changing the composition and the breaking of rocks or other materials that occur on the surface of the earth due to the physical, chemical, and biological processes. Weathering is a natural process that works to destroy rocks to the ground. The weathering process destroys and dissolves rock minerals into this soil supported by factors such as time, rock type, topography, organism, and climate. The agents that play a role include water, ice, acid, salt, plants, animals, and temperature changes.
Various Types of Weathering
1.     Physical Weathering and Examples
a)     Physical weathering or often called mechanical weathering is a process of weathering rocks caused by the influence of physical factors on rocks. The most dominant factors in this type of weathering are air temperature, pressure, and salt crystallization. This type of weathering can only be found in extreme climates, such as subtropics, desert areas, coastal areas, and areas with steep topography.

Some examples of weathering physics we can find on earth include:

Desolate rocks in the desert due to extreme daily weather changes. High temperatures during the day make rock expanding, then at night the air temperature drops and makes rocks shrink. This process occurs repeatedly and allows the mineral bonds in the rocks to weaken so that rocks break down into several parts.
b)      Crystallization of brine to rocks in coastal ecosystems. The crystallization of salt water in rock pores around the coastal ecosystem will depress the rocks endogenously to allow rocks to burst.
c)     Rockslide in a steep topographic area. Landslides occur due to high pressure on the rocks of the rock bottom. The pressure causes the bond between the rocks to weaken and apart from each other.
2.     Weathering Chemicals and Examples
Chemical weathering is a weathering process that results from changes in chemical structure of rocks through certain reactions. The reactions that occur in the weathering process there are 3 kinds, namely solution, hydrolysis, and oxidation. Examples of chemical weathering through these three reactions include:
a)     Lime limestone dissolution process due to its reaction to water.
b)     Rainwater hydrolysis results in an increase in the acidity level around the rocks. Ion H + allows corrosion of rocks.
c)      Oxidation in rocks rich in iron minerals allows the bonding of minerals in rock surfaces to become weak and degraded.
3.     Biological weathering and examples
Weathering biology or often called organic weathering is a process of weathering rocks done by the organism through its activities around the environment of the rock. The organisms that play a role in this kind of weathering can be animals, plants, fungi, bacteria, to humans.
The biological weathering process involves two ways, namely biochemical and mechanical means. The following is an example of biological weathering through the 2 ways.
a)     The growth of moss on the rock surface allows the rocks to degrade. The moisture of the rock surface due to the absorption of roots and the high pH around the surface of the rock due to excretion of residual metabolism of moss makes the surface of rocks corrosion.
b)     Penetration of plant roots into the sidelines of rocks suppress the rocks so that they experience a split.

Well, so exposure to the understanding and various weathering rocks and examples. Hopefully you can open your horizons about geology and the process of land formation on earth. Regards.

How to Prevent Weathering there are 3 ie
      Weathering Biology:
Soak the wood into the mud so that the termite bite hole is closed
Paint the wood with anti-termite paint
Avoid walls & rocks exposed to water
Use strong wood like teak wood
      Physical Weathering:
Make a cover / porch so as not exposed to raindrops and sunlight
      Weathering Chemistry:
      Stop air pollution
Planting lots of trees to make carbon dioxide replaced by oxygen

  3. How the process of weathering occurs ?

    BalasHapus
    Balasan
    1. The weathering process occurs in rocks and also on natural remains and minerals. The eroded natural minerals are partially passed into the ground, and some also settle into sedimentary rocks. The weathering process from rock to soil or sedimentary rock does not just happen, but it takes a long time. The occurrence of weathering can be caused by three kinds, namely physics, chemistry, and also biological or organic. Because the process is different, the factors that influence it also vary. The occurrence of weathering is also inseparable from the role of sunlight, air temperature, and also water vapor. The existence of differences in air temperature, rainfall, and also wind continuously will cause the objects experience weathering.
Then the weathering process there are also 3 kinds of processes, as follows:

      Physical weathering process
The first weathering process is the physical weathering process. The physical weathering process is a mechanical process that causes massive rocks to break and crumble and fragment into microparticles with no chemical changes.

      Chemical or chemical weathering processes
In addition to the physical weathering process, then dalah weathering chemically. As the name implies, this chemical weathering occurs because of the help of chemicals.

      Biological or Organic weathering process

Next is the weathering process that occurs biologically or organically and also weathering chemicals / chemicals. If physical weathering is caused by natural factors, then this biological weathering or organic weathering is due to the role of living things.

    1. Of course weathering can be prevented, by:
      A. Wood drying, the goal is to minimize the pores.
      B. Coat the wood with paint, plitur, or varnish purpose
So that the wooden pest can not go inside
      Wood pores.
      C. Soaking the wood in the mud to close
Wood pores and close pest rods go into
      In wood.

  6. What is the another example of WEATHERING?

    BalasHapus
    Balasan
    1. Another example of corrosion weathering:
Corrosion is the destruction or degradation of metals due to a redox reaction between a metal and various substances in the environment that produce undesirable compounds. In ordinary language, corrosion is called kararatan. The most common example of corrosion is iron fi gure.

In corrosion events, the metal undergoes oxidation, while oxygen (air) is reduced. The metal rust is generally an oxide or carbonate. The chemical rust formula is Fe2O3.nH2O, a solid brown-red substance.

Corrosion is an electrochemical process. In iron corrosion, certain parts of the iron act as anode, in which iron undergoes oxidation.

      Fe (s) <-> Fe2 + (aq) + 2e

The freed electrons in the anode flow to another part of the iron acting as a cathode, in which the oxygen is reduced.

      O2 (g) + 4H + (aq) + 4e <-> 2H2O (l)

      or

      O2 (g) + 2H2O (l) + 4e <-> 4OH- (aq)

The iron ions (II) formed at the anode subsequently oxidized to form iron (III) ions which then form the hydrated oxide compound, which is iron rust. As to which part of the iron acts as anode and which part acts as a cathode, it depends on various factors, such as impurities, or the density of the metal.

    1. Scientific topography means the study of the shape of the earth's surface and other objects such as planets, natural satellites (moon and so on), and asteroids. In a broader sense, topography is not only about surface form, but also vegetation and human influence on the environment, and even local culture (Social Sciences). Topography generally presents surface relief, three-dimensional model, and land type identification. The use of the word topography dates back to ancient Greece and continues into ancient Rome, as a detail of a place. The word comes from the Greek word, topos which means place, and graphia which means writing. The object of topography is about the position of a part and generally referring to the horizontal coordinates such as latitude and longitude, and vertically the height. Identifying land types also includes part of the object of this study. Topographic studies are conducted for a variety of reasons, including military planning and geological exploration. For the need for civil construction, public works, and reclamation projects require more detailed topographical studies.

  8. Why Penetration of plant roots to the sidelines of rocks suppress the rocks so that they experience a split ?

    BalasHapus
    Balasan
    1. Because the seeds of plants that are hyped in the rocks are getting bigger and bigger into trees. The roots will enlarge, squeeze and penetrate the surrounding rock slowly and destroy the rocks. Destruction of rock by the roots of this plant is not solely by root pressure alone, there is a chemical element.
